On Wednesday 2 May 2012 I travelled to John Forrest National Park some 30 km east of Perth to walk the 15 km 'Eagle's View Walk Trail'.

Arriving in the Park I received some excellent advice from the local ranger and hit the trail about 10am. The walk is mostly described as 'easy' but to my mind there are some 'moderatey difficult' scrambles up and down. The first 3km took about 1 hour at which time I arrived, somewhat puffed, at the top of the Escarpment with a great view westwards to Perth.
Looking west towards Perth
12 km to go!
The walk then becomes a little easier, rolling down and up some beautiful valleys. About half way I spotted two black eagles with wing spans well over a metre, soaring the ridge. I'm fairly sure they were wedge-tails after whom the walk was named. You may just spot one in the crook of this tree.

And again
Wedge-tail
There has been a hot bushfire here in recent times but the trees are sprouting strong new growth and the area is recovering well - not sure about the wildlife however as I saw no kangaroos or other ground based wildlife.
Regrowth after fire
The latter part of the walk offers great views of Perth through 'naked' wandoo trees.

The last 4km is along a gravel management track and I was a bit foot sore by the end, after 4.5 hours. All in all a very rewarding walk.
